Stephen Fry

"Dundee’s setting is probably more extraordinary than any other city in the UK. It is about as ideal – ludicrously ideal – as any setting could be."

It’s comic central in Beano Town

Peashooters at the ready for heading down the city’s Bash Street! Home of The Beano and The Dandy, our comic heritage remains important today, with The Scottish Centre for Comic Studies here, zines and comics such as Treehouse and DEE-CON, which attracts thousands of fans to this massive annual anime convention. Posing with our Desperate Dan and Minnie the Minx statues are city musts.

Collaboration, creatives and collectives

Once famous for its jute textiles, the city’s industrial spaces are now filled with hundreds of creatives and collectives such as Tin Roof, Rusty Hip, Fleet Collective, Generator Projects, Wasps Studios and Vanilla Ink – an incubator for emerging jewellery designers. If it doesn’t exist, make it happen, that’s the way we roll in Dundee.

Major waterfront transformation underway

Dundee city is undergoing a £1billion transformation along the River Tay. With many new businesses, restaurants, hotels, and green spaces planned. V&A Dundee will be at its heart and makes all the rubble currently on the horizon well worth it!

Video games pioneers for play and health care

The hugely successful Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings series was created here in the 90s. Ever since digital start-ups and Abertay University have been at the heart of the thriving games community. Dundee has many digital pioneers, from digital toy makers Denki, to digital theatre games by Quartic Llama, to 3D mapping innovators eeGeo. Guerrilla Tea has recently launched Games in Space, a game where you help process breast cancer data as you play. A great force for good!
